[Background]

During my time at Weber Group Inc, we were approached by Merlin Entertainments to develop a new outdoor water play area at their Sea Life Aquarium located in Arizona. My role as the lead designer was to develop the initial concept into what you see below. It was my responsibility to work with our client and creative director to develop the 3D conceptual models & renders. I also developed the drawing packages & production drawings for our shop to build these elements.

The story of this water play area was all about the Colorado River & the power of water. Water travels from the snow melt & precipitation in the Rocky Mountain range (area at far right), through the hills and canyons, making its way through the Hoover Dam which provides power to hundreds of thousands of people. The water is so powerful that it carved the Grand Canyon. Eventually, the river spills out into the Gulf of California (far left), the only area in the ocean where the nearly extinct Vaquita dolphin is found. Throughout the river’s journey children can play with various elements which stop and start the flow of the water.

Depicted above is the end of our River’s Journey in the Gulf of California where we have sculptures of Animals found in this body of water. In this play feature children can interact with the animal sculptures, shooting water at the fish which spin and swim when they are hit just right. Below you will find some samples of production drawings I had done for these thematic elements so our shop could fabricate & install.
