As Lead Designer & Design Manager, I helped bring the magic of the Crayola brand to life. I was heavily involved with the design and build of Crayola Experience locations in Orlando, FL, Mall of America, and Plano, TX. My scope of work included blue sky exploration for new interactive experiences, space planning, concept design through design development show packages, 3D facility & sculptural modeling, graphic design, technical design & drafting, vendor management & coordination, and on-site field art direction. Below you will find just a snippet of my work for these projects. Detailed work samples can be made available upon request.
Above: Exterior of Crayola Experience Orlando with fun snapshots & details of the ‘tip’ characters. When I began working on this specific location, the concept design was mostly completed. I took the design package from concept to design development; 3D modeling and developing drawings for the bid packages and fabrication drawing review sets.
Above: Photos of select attractions inside the Crayola Experience. During my time with Weber Group, I had the unique experience to not only act as the designer, but work with our own shop & other scenic vendor shops to realize many of the elements shown above. I had to coordinate heavily with multiple disciplines to integrate the appropriate equipment and technology into our scenic, while also maintaining the overall vision & brand of Crayola LLC.
Above are images of the exterior of CE Mall of America. We had a small amount of real estate that the mall allowed us to brand. I provided the team with a way to creatively increase this “real estate” visually, while also saving the project money. I produced the 3D model & design intent drawing packages for the designs seen above. Also shown, are images of the fabrication process. That crayon box is the size of a school bus!
Above: Entry into CE Mall of America. For this location, I worked on the project from inception to opening day. I created the first initial floorplans as we space planned the 50,000 SQFT facility, brainstormed new attraction ideas with the Crayola team, developed fun concepts for the interior and exterior entry facades, developed the CAD and graphics packages. Eventually, moving onto site, I worked with local scenic vendors to make sure our show elements were fabricated to the appropriate design intent. I could be found walking around our construction site monitoring progress and providing creative solutions to all the fun problems that arise when you go vertical.
